Newport Harbor Elks Lodge #1767 Youth Night

Close to $50,000 Awarded in Scholarships, to Youth Groups and Local Charitable Organizations

On Tuesday, May 7, Newport Harbor Elks Lodge 1767 hosted their annual Youth Night. Several local charitable organizations that extend help to youth and their families, and 112 youth were recognized. Close to $50K of funds from the Newport Harbor Charitable Tate Fund were distributed at Youth Night and to several organizations over the past year:

Youth Night opened with a free pasta buffet served to all awardees and their families. To begin the awards, Lodge Exalted Ruler Bryan Baker announced the presentation of the Colors by Newport Mesa Girl Scouts. Then an event Prayer was led by Lodge Chaplain Marilee Jackson and Pledge of Allegiance was led by Assistant Esquire Dan Roach. A musical performance took place by California Elementary School’s youth band led by Instructor Nick St. Royal. And a fun and instructive demonstration was provided by Officer Wilson of the Newport Beach Police Canine Group and his police canine, Kajo. Kailash Vleti, 5th grader at Newport Elementary School and winner of the Elks 2018-2019 District American Essay Contest, gallantly read his winning essay titled, What Makes You Proud of America, while his family proudly watched. His essay is now in the running for the Elks State Competition and could go on to Elks National Essay Competition.

Closing comments by Newport Harbor Elks Past Exalted Ruler, 4-Year Trustee and Event Chair Woman Sharron Dearborn were, “These young people are our future… embrace them and watch them prosper. We are in good hands.”
