OC Crews Battle Mosquito Threat After Wet Weather: Report
Orange County crews were hard at work this week addressing the sharp increase in mosquito eggs across the county.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Orange County crews were dispatched to several parks and reserves across the county to fight against a boom in mosquito larval population after the recent wetter-than-usual weather, the Daily Pilot reported.
Crews were sent to Fairview Park in Costa Mesa on Monday, Banning Ranch in Newport Beach and the Harriett Wieder Regional Park at the Bolsa Chica Conservancy in Huntington Beach on Thursday to reduce the mosquito population, the report said.
To kill the mosquito larvae, workers sprayed a diluted solution of Vectobac onto bodies of water where the larvae could be seen moving near the surface. Vectobac contains naturally-occurring bacteria that only affects mosquito larvae, the report said.
