OCC to Host Pilates Guest Lecture Series

The Orange Coast College dance department will host its tenth annual Pilates Guest Speaker Series from Sept. 13 to Nov. 8

The Orange Coast College dance department will host its tenth annual Pilates Guest Speaker Series from Sept. 13 to Nov. 8. The series of five lecture-activity workshops will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the months from 11:10 until 1:15 p.m. in the College’s Art Center, Rooms 147 or 148, and are open to the public. Lectures run $20 each, and attendees also can purchase all five lectures for $80. The workshops are free for OCC students, faculty and staff.

According to Amelie Hunter, series coordinator and director of OCC’s Pilates/Dance Conditioning Program, lectures will be given in small, intimate groups and will introduce students and teachers to therapies and exercise techniques that can be used to improve teaching skills, exercise results and injury prevention. The lectures also will give the audience a broader understanding of the many ways that Pilates can be incorporated for a healthy and joyful lifestyle.

The series begins on Sept. 13 with a lecture by Dena Lombardo titled “Pilates for Kids” that will focus on the many fun approaches to teaching children, and strategies to keep them attentive.
