Three Town Hall Listening Sessions are scheduled for the week of Oct. 22–26 that will help inform the characteristics, traits, and experiences that the College and its local community are seeking in their next president. The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, Oct. 22 — Student Center Lounge, 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 24 — Student Center Lounge, 2–3 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 26 — Legacy Hall 101, 3–4 p.m.

Participants will be asked to consider several questions, including “What leadership style is most important for [OCC’s] next president to have?” and “Looking ahead, what are some opportunities for OCC? What are some challenges?”

Orange Coast College’s current president, Dr. Dennis Harkins, is set to retire at the end of this semester after nearly a decade at the helm of the Costa Mesa campus. Dr. Harkins is the 10th and third-longest-serving president in school history. The search currently is under way for an interim president, and a permanent president is expected to be in place by July 2019.
