OCC Theatre Will Perform “Don Juan – The Trickster of Seville”

Orange Coast College's theatre department will stage a production of "Don Juan - The Trickster of Seville," from Nov. 9 through Nov. 18.

Orange Coast College’s theatre department will stage a production of “Don Juan - The Trickster of Seville,” from Nov. 9 through Nov. 18 in the school’s Drama Lab Theatre. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9–11 and Nov. 16–17. There will be a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.

An exciting translation of the Spanish philanderer’s legendary adventures by Tirso de Molina, this classical dark comedy features seduction, swordplay, swashbuckling action and revenge, and is not for the faint-of-heart!

“Don Juan tricks his way into the hearts (and beds) of lovely women through Italy and Spain, only to confront his mortality earlier than he expected,” says Director Tom Bruno. “This is a rarely performed play so it’s a wonderful opportunity for audiences to discover a story written over 500 years ago that is completely relevant to our contemporary lives: sex, swords, song, the paranormal, revenge … what’s not to like?”

According to Bruno, the topic is especially timely in today’s political climate. “Of course, the Don Juan archetype has been explored in Western culture for centuries through plays and opera and it still resonates today in the middle of the #metoo movement,” he says.

Tickets run $12 in advance at www.occtickets.com or $15 at the door ($8/$10 for students and seniors).
