One Killed, One Arrested After Street Takeover: Costa Mesa
Early Thursday morning, a truck involved in a Costa Mesa street takeover flipped, killing one person, police say. The driver was arrested.
COSTA MESA, CA — One person was killed and another was others injured Thursday morning in street takeovers in both Costa Mesa and Anaheim.
Middle of the night street takeovers across Orange County have been on the upswing, where hundreds gather to watch drivers do stunt moves with their cars, turning "donuts" and speeding down city streets.

At 2:30 a.m., a black truck involved in the takeover flipped over on its side at the intersection of Sunflower and Hyland avenues in Costa Mesa about 2:30 a.m.
One passenger inside that truck was killed and a second passenger was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The driver of that truck, identified later as 22-year-old Mynor Esquivel of Los Angele, was arrested at the scene, according to a spokeswoman for the department. He was booked on suspicion of vehicular homicide, the department says.
That area remains closed to drivers while Major Accident Investigation Teams investigate, she said. Police advise all seek alternate routes.
No other information about the victims was available as of this report.
A news photographer at the scene reported vehicles were doing stunt moves in the intersection at the time the deadly crash occurred.
Approximately 80 to 100 cars, suspected of leaving a similar event in Anaheim were involved in the street takeover, and alcohol consumption is suspected, as police discovered an open beer bottle at the scene, in the intersection.
The age, gender and name of the victim were not disclosed as of this report.
