Pedestrian Struck, Injured By Fire Hydrant On PCH

The hydrant was sheared off when hit by a vehicle, Newport Beach police said.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – A pedestrian was seriously injured Thursday evening when she was struck by a fire hydrant that was sheared off by a vehicle in Newport Beach.

The crash was reported around 10 p.m. in the 500 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a fire hydrant, which hit the woman.

She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the car remained at the scene, and the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
