Plans For New Grocery Market Take Root In South Orange County
Costa Mesa Planning Commissioners approved several entitlements for a proposed Northgate Market at their meeting this week.
COSTA MESA, CA — Plans to construct a Northgate Market in Costa Mesa are underway after the city's Planning Commission approved several entitlements necessary for the project to start.
The entitlements would allow for proposed new additions to the 68,128-square-foot Harbor Center shopping center site, located at 2300 Harbor Blvd.
The market would include a grocery store, bakery, tortilleria and bar with space for live music.

City commissioners also signed off on a reduction in the number of required parking spaces as well as an outdoor patio.
The commission also granted the owners of the business the right to apply for licenses to sell alcohol to store customers and serve beer, wine and liquor at dining areas inside the store.

Northgate Market was founded in Anaheim in 1980 by Miguel González Jiménez and is still operated by members of the family. The chain currently has 44 locations throughout the Southland.
