NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Police vehicles and officers swarmed a Newport Shores neighborhood Tuesday afternoon in response to a report of a possible break-in.

After closing off surrounding roads and converging on a home near Colton and Lugonia streets as a precaution, officers cleared the scene without finding a suspect, according to a Newport Beach Police Department spokesperson. The unusual police presence created a scare in the quiet beachside community.

According to a resident eyewitness, a helicopter circled the block overhead, and several streets were blocked off by police cars. Neighbors reported hearing police ordering a suspect to come out with his hands up. Video footage from the scene shows multiple patrol units and officers with their guns drawn and pointed at a person. That person was then handcuffed and placed in a patrol car.
