NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Two people were arrested for possession of rainbow fentanyl Tuesday in Newport Beach after leading police officers on a slow-speed pursuit through Costa Mesa, authorities said.

According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, the incident happened when an officer tried to stop a vehicle for a vehicle code violation Tuesday evening. Authorities said the driver refused to yield and led officers on a slow-speed pursuit through the east side of Costa Mesa.

During the pursuit, officers said, three bags of narcotics were thrown out of the fleeing vehicle. When the vehicle ultimately stopped in Newport Beach later that night, Newport Beach police officers assisted in a high-risk car stop and arrested both suspects.
