Shin Do Kan Dojo Celebrates 30 Years of Traditional Aikido

Thirty years. So much can happen in that time. For Newport Beach Aikido Shin Do Kan Dojo, it has flourished during this test of time. Celebrating their 30th anniversary on April 7th-9th, Newport Beach Aikido Shin Do Kan Dojo has been has been offering traditional aikido training since 1987.

The Shin Do Kan Dojo itself is extremely unique, as it is one of the only full-time Aikido dojos open 7 days a week. Even the name itself is special, meaning the “house where we practice the way of the heart”, given by Seiichi Sugano, who was Sensei Pennewaert’s principal teacher.

At the Shin Do Kan Dojo, we are proud to practice the way of the samurai. When using Aikido, one redirects an attacker's energy against himself. Sensei Gentil Pennewaert is a 2nd generation practitioner and teacher, closely following the teachings of the founder, and will be holding a 3 day seminar in celebration of his world renowned dojo. This event will not only feature Sensei Pennewaert, but Michael Moyses as well, who is currently the dojo cho of Aikido Shin Do Kan in Belgium (5th Dan Aikikai). In addition, the son of Seiichi Sugano, Jikou Sugano (5th Dan Aikikai), will be present with Donovan Waite (7th Dan Shihan Aikikai), who has traveled the world spreading the teachings of Aikido. Each instructor is well known in their own right, yet they have come to Newport Beach to celebrate this momentous occasion of thirty years.

In honor of such an event, many students will be performing their various talents at the an evening celebration on Saturday, April 8th at Campus Jax in Newport Beach, which will include Alisa Khodos, our young talented violinist from Irvine Classical Players Seraphim Symphony Orchestra, Rich Hurley - an incredible magician from the esteemed House of Magic, Skylar Mineshima with a traditional Hawaiian dance and much more!

Aikido is gentle martial art that will not only provide you with self-defense, but also brings peace of mind and allows you to control negative emotions and thoughts. Aikido is beneficial to all who have practiced, quickly becoming increasingly popular in so many countries. The celebration of thirty long years of practice is a momentous, milestone occasion, bringing in people from all over the world for a fantastic and enlightening three day event.
