Sports Shorts: May-Treaner to Appear at Long Beach State Tonight

Newport Harbor High graduate who is considered one of the best beach volleyball players in the history of the sport, will sign autographs at the college's Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Misty May-Treanor (, Class of ’95) the darling of beach volleyball and two-time Olympic gold medal winner, is scheduled to appear at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at her alma mater, Long Beach State, today (Thursday, Sept. 1) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to sign autographs in celebration of the center’s one-year anniversary.

She graduated with a BA in kinesiology/fitness from Long Beach State in 2002 and was inducted into the 49ers’ Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. A setter, May-Treaner led the college’s 1998 women’s volleyball team to a 36-0 record and the NCAA Division 1 championship. She was named the American Volleyball Coaches Assn.'s National Player of the Year in 1997 and ‘98.
