Teen Killed by Teen Driver While Darting Across Freeway
A 19-year-old man died after he tried to run across the freeway only to be struck by a 16-year-old driver.

A 19-year-old man tried to run across the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, but seven hours after being hit by a car driven by a 16- year-old boy, police said today.
Missael Espinoza, of Costa Mesa, died in a hospital at 5:40 a.m., according to Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott.
The 16-year-old motorist cooperated with investigators, showed no signs of impairment and was not cited, Scott said.

The collision took place shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, on the 55 Freeway near 19th Street, he said.
Witnesses told police the man tried to cross the southbound lanes near the southern end of the 55 when he was struck by a BMW 328i driven by the 16- year-old boy, Scott said.

Espinoza suffered a skull fracture and brain injury, Scott continued.
There’s no word yet regarding why he was trying to run across part of the freeway. Police asked anyone with information on this incident to call Costa Mesa police investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264. All tips can be made anonymously.
