Victim ID'd In South OC Shooting, 20-Year-Old Suspect Arrested
Detectives arrested a 20-year-old man in the shooting death of a 38-year-old man in Costa Mesa, authorities said Tuesday.
COSTA MESA, CA — Detectives arrested a 20-year-old man in the shooting death of a 38-year-old man in Costa Mesa, authorities said Tuesday.
Costa Mesa police officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of the Sterling Avenue, near Pomona Avenue, at about 10:45 p.m. Monday in response to gunshots being heard.
Officers found the victim on a sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the CMPD.

Officers started life-saving efforts including CPR and the use of an AED machine, however, the victim died as a result of his injuries after being rushed to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.
He was identified as Jonathan Ray Valdez of Costa Mesa, police said.

On Tuesday, detectives arrested Ryan Rosas of Costa Mesa in connection with the death of Valdez. They also allegedly recovered the weapon suspected to have been used in the homicide.
"This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety," police said.
