No admission will be charged for the services which are geared primarily to the tens of thousands of unaffiliated Jewish families residing in Orange County.
Rabbi Reuven Mintz of the Jewish Center explained.
"Many families don’t attend services because the Synagogue environment is foreign to them," Mintz said. "There is a need to reach out and ensure that they too are welcomed to services on these holiest days of the Jewish year."
Yom Kippur is a day set aside to "afflict the soul," to atone for the sins of the past year. It is considered to be the time to repent sins committed over the course of the last year in order to change judgment, demonstrating your repentance and make amends; a time to apologize to both people and God for transgressions.
Devout observers frequently refrain from eating and drinking (even water) during the 25-hour fast that begins before sunset on the evening before Yom Kippur, and ending after nightfall on the day of Yom Kippur, and no work is to be preformed.
Services sponsored by the Chabad Center for Jewish Life are designed in a user-friendly manner, making it educational, enjoyable and meaningful for both the novice and the expert.
The services follow traditional customs blended with contemporary messages and are interspersed with modern tunes and English readings which will leave the individual enriched, connected and inspired. There will be an exciting interactive children’s program.
This serves to create an inspirational Jewish New Year for all who attend.
