5 Hit By Pellet Shots In Sun Valley

Police said the shots appeared to be fired from a window in a residence across from a high school.

SUN VALLEY, CA – Five people -- three of them juveniles -- were struck by shots fired from what's believed to be a pellet gun outside a high school in Sun Valley Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The shooting was reported just before 3:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of Telfair Avenue, where Sun Valley High School is located, according to the Los Angeles police and fire departments.

Four students and a 34-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries from some kind of non-lethal weapon and were taken to a hospital, said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Police later told reporters at the scene that the victims were two adults and three juveniles.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said it appeared the victims were shot with a pellet gun, but referred additional questions to school police, who were investigating.

According to reports from the scene, the shots appeared to have been fired from a window from an apartment complex across the street from the high school and police went door-to-door looking for whoever was responsible, but didn't find a suspect or a weapon.
