California Kids Vote Hillary Clinton for President
Scholastic's poll of kids across the country included California youth, and they're with her over Donald Trump.
LOS ANGELES, CA — Donald Trump should consider himself lucky children can’t vote because Hillary Clinton trounced him in a nationwide student poll this week, with California kids giving the Democrat her widest margin of victory.
If kids in California could vote, they would elect Clinton to be the 45th president of the United States by a margin of 71 percent to 19 percent. Another 10 percent of California’s kids went with a write-in candidate.
That's according to the results of a Scholastic poll, which included 153,000 kids nationwide from kindergarten through 12th grade voting by online and mail-in ballot. Scholastic was sure to clarify, though, that the poll is "not based on a scientifically designed sample of the student population." Instead, "It is an educational activity meant to give students an opportunity to express their opinions about the 2016 presidential election."

In this hypothetical election, Clinton managed to win some deeply red states, including Texas and Utah. She also swept the swing states.
“Since 1940, the results of the student vote have usually mirrored the outcome of the presidential election,” according to a statement released by Scholastic. “In fact, Scholastic readers have been wrong only twice. In 1948, kids picked Thomas E. Dewey over President Harry S. Truman. And in 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for the eventual president, John F. Kennedy.”

In a press release, Scholastic also included quotes from kids who voted for each candidate.
“I voted for Hillary because she will be the first woman president,” a sixth grade student in Arizona said. "Hillary is showing all women young or old you can do anything."
A Georgia fifth-grader said he voted for Trump, "because he would be good for business.”
