Doctor Takes Local Elementary School Children On A Healthy Field Trip

Children Learn About Fresh Fruit and Veggies From Local Doctor and Healthy Mascot Ms. Broccoli

Doctor Carlos Mendez, MD, led a walking field trip with third grade children, parents and staff from Ranchito Elementary to the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Farmers Market as one of Kaiser Permanente’s many initiatives to keep kids healthy and promote overall wellness. As part of the field trip, the children were taught about the importance of physical activity along with making informed food choices such as including a diet full of fruits and vegetables.

According to Dr. Mendez, “We know that a cycle of unhealthy eating and inactivity in kids can lead to major problems down the road. Today’s field trip is a testament of our mission to deliver great care, while also empowering children, parents and teachers with fun and creative outlets to promote wellness.”

In addition to today’s field trip Kaiser Permanente also offers programs Thriving Schools and Educational Theatre: programs that motivate children to make informed health decisions, while addressing the specific health and emotional needs of children in grades K-12.
