New Valley Symphony Orchestra Concert

The New Valley Symphony Orchestra has appointed rising star,

A. Phoenix Delgado as Music Director, concluding year-long search.

After a year-long search, and the difficult process of choosing from a select group of outstanding candidates, the New Valley Symphony Orchestra has found its Music Director. Interlochen Center for the Arts Academy alumnus, former soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, A. Phoenix Delgado has been selected to lead the symphony to the next level.

Delgado has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, CBS Early Show and celebrated in People Magazine as one of People Magazine’s “Heroes Among Us”. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Southern California in flute/vocal performance and orchestral conducting.

Assistant Dean for the USC Thornton School of Music, he is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance, with elective fields in conducting, theory & analysis, and executive leadership.

This rising star has shone brightly over the Southern California musical community as the Executive Director for The Harmony Project, a non-profit organization that offers music education to under-served youth. He was instrumental in the development of the organization during his four years as Executive Director.

Delgado founded the Harmony Project’s Summer Festival Orchestras, the Harmony Project Orchestra, and the Hollywood Youth Orchestra. He formed the LA Philharmonic’s EXPO Center Youth Orchestra, which has been conducted by Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl.

As a flautist he has a respectable career of free-lance live performance, recording and several principal positions (8 seasons with the El Paso Opera and he currently is seated as principal with the Golden State Pops Orchestra).

His conducting resume is also very impressive. He was guest conductor for the Chamber Ensemble of Rome, YMF Debut Orchestra, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony. He held the baton at the 2005 Grammy's Salute to Classical Music honoring Esa-Pekka Salonen. He has appeared with the USC Thornton Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, served as assistant Conductor for the Pasadena Symphony and for Michael Tilson Thomas at Disney Hall. He has conducted with John Barnett (former Associate Conductor of the LA Phil and former Music Director/Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra) and presently, he serves as GSPO’s Resident Guest Conductor.

A. Phoenix Delgado's most recent and most notable appointment is Music Director/Conductor for the New Valley Symphony Orchestra.

“We are excited and delighted to welcome Phoenix Delgado to the NVSO family. Out of the large number of talented, dynamic and charismatic candidates we dealt with in our selection process, we believe that Phoenix best possesses the right balance of skills, experience and outlook to serve as Music Director at this juncture in our group’s 44-year history. Under Phoenix’s musical leadership and with the artistry of the NVSO musicians, the Orchestra will unquestionably continue on its upward trajectory to new heights, and it will be fun getting there. We are poised for some very good things this season and beyond.” -Gary Urwin, President of the NVSO

The orchestra will debut their new Music Director on Sunday, October 28 (see program information below). This concert is made possible in large part due to the generosity of Phoenix’s good friend, philanthropist, benefactor of the arts and lead underwriter, Christine Marie Ofiesh.
