Extreme Heat, Wind Stoke Brush Fire
County firefighters sent two helicopters to help get the upper hand on a blaze near Glendale Community College.

Updated at 4:25 p.m: Mountain Street in Glendale has reopened, after being closed between the Glendale (2) Freeway and Verdugo Road due to a brush fire near Glendale Community College. The Mountain Street off-ramp from the southbound side of the freeway has also reopened. The fire scorched about three acres, but firefighters have gained the upper hand.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department has sent two helicopters and a first-alarm brush fire response contingent to assist Glendale Fire Department counterparts in battling that brush fire burning near Glendale Community College, county fire Inspector Randall Wright said.
The blaze was reported about 1:45 p.m.

Mountain Street was closed between Verdugo Road and the freeway, from which flames and smoke were visible.
No structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered, according to the city.
