Fiery Big Rig Crash Shuts Down 5 Freeway For Hours

All lanes have reopened after a fiery truck crash in Burbank shut down the northbound lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway overnight.

BURBANK, CA — A pileup involving two big rigs and a pickup truck caught fire and forced the closure of the hours-long closure of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Burbank Tuesday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. near Burbank Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol. It caused one of the big rigs two break an axle and sent debris scattered across the freeway lanes. Firefighters were able to put out the burning big rig, but four lanes of the freeway remained closed for clean-up until 7 a.m. Tuesday when the 1 and 2 lanes were reopened. The Nos. 3 and 4 lanes have since reopened, the CHP reported.

No injuries were reported. Details of what led up to the crash were not disclosed.
