Galatzan raises new concerns about LA Unified bond committee

Board Member tries to silence iPad critic.

To say that “Galatzan’s latest objection echoed her expressions of concern in May when she first called into question the BOA’s efficacy” is rather disingenuous. In attempting to block Stuart Magruder’s reappointment her complaint seemed to be that he was exercising too much oversight. Specifically she said that he was “overstepping his bounds.” Now she changes her tune and faults the committee for failing to catch another attempt by the Superintendent's staff to use bond funding for something other than the one described to the voters.

The fact remains that Ms. Galatzan supported the purchase of iPads using bond funds that were meant for construction and repairs. This was fiscally irresponsible and a violation of the voters’ trust. When Mr. Magruder spoke out against this program, Ms. Galatzan tried to silence him. From forcing parents to sign confidentiality agreements to prohibiting teachers from discussing investigations against them, silencing critics seems to be a favorite method of the LAUSD. Change is needed.
