On the fourth Saturday of every other month, two Gene Autry films are screened in the Imagination Gallery’s Western Legacy Theater. Get into the spooky spirit of the season with a pair of ghost-themed Westerns that find Gene searching for the truth behind eerie ghost riders. Gene’s an investigator in Riders in the Sky, and with the help of his sidekick Pat Buttram, he tries to clear an innocent man of murder. Then it’s up to circuit-riding Judge Gene and his sidekick Smiley Burnette to unravel the mystery in Goldtown Ghost Riders.

Synopsis:
Riders in the Sky (Columbia Pictures, 1949)

One of the greatest of cowboy songs since “The Last Round-Up” and “South of the Border” launches Gene Autry on his most stirring adventure! Riders in the Skyfinds investigator Gene Autry helping a gal clear her father’s name after he has been accused of murdering a gambler. When the leader of the gamblers gets involved, it’s up to Gene and his comic sidekick pal Pat Buttram to outwit and outfight the badland badmen.

Goldtown Ghost Riders (Columbia Pictures, 1953)

Gene Autry’s flying fists and Champion’s flying hooves carry the law into a ghost-ridden, fear-crazed gold town. Gene is a district judge who acts as his own police force to deal out swift six-gun justice. Smiley Burnette is a dynamite and blasting powder salesman. Together they must unravel a dual-identity murder and the mystery of a decade-old gold-claim scheme by con artists who enlist a band of outlaws disguised as ghost riders.
