Everyone

On the fourth Saturday of every other month, two Gene Autry films are screened in the Imagination Gallery’s Western Legacy Theater. This month you are sure to hear Gene Autry sing his iconic Christmas song “Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).” The song might conjure up images of evergreen trees, woodland animals, and of course, Santa. You’ll find all that and more in the filmsSunset in Wyoming and The Cowboy and the Indians.

Sypnosis:

Sunset in Wyoming (Republic Pictures, 1941)

Rancher Gene Autry is a conscientious cowboy who must save his valley from flooding caused by a lumber company that is stripping the top of Mount Warner without planting new trees. Gene and his sidekick Frog Millhouse, played by Smiley Burnette, hatch a plan to declare the mountain a state park and wildlife shrine. It will take guns, guitars, and several wild animals from the zoo to get the job done!

The Cowboy and Indians (Columbia Pictures, 1949)

Rancher Gene Autry tries to aid neighboring Navajos suffering from malnutrition, but he is opposed by the crafty and crooked trading-post proprietor Martin. Soon the Navajo chief is found unconscious with his priceless turquoise necklace stolen, and Lakohna, next in line to be chief, is falsely blamed. Gene and Lakohna combine forces to take down Martin and help the starving tribe. Sheila Ryan, Clayton Moore, and Jay Silverheels round out the cast in this modern story with Old West thrills. This is the only film in which Gene sings his classic “Here Comes Santa Calus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).”
