LED Tubes that use existing ballast vs LED Tubes needing ballast removal
There is a belief that plug & play technology is easier to install with less installation cost.
I was asked by a customer ‘where’ is my answer to the question: Will we be making an LED fluorescent tube replacement that’s just plug and play so you don’t need to remove the ballast from the original fixture… so I will post it here:
There is a belief that plug & play technology is easier to install with less installation cost. Well… here is my opinion on this question. While initially it might take less time to just install the tube without cutting any wires… eventually the ballast will fail…and then it has to come out anyway… kind of a “pay me now, or pay me later” scenario. Also, you are leaving the biggest culprit for power loss in the chain. The ballast pulls 8 watts of power even if the light isn’t on… that’s almost half your power saving down the drain.
It took David (in the video) around 8 minutes to disconnect the ballast and install the new tubes…and he was explaining the whole time…so he could have done it in half the time if he hadn’t been ‘teaching’…It took me 8 minutes the first time…and I’m no electrician. My point being, a qualified electrician could probably do it in minutes.
AND DON’T FORGET…our tubes are repairable, right here in Sun Valley California…so they are more of an investment rather than a throw away lamp. Combine that with the fact that our tubes last 30% longer and are 30% brighter than ANY LED tube on the market…and how can you go wrong!!!
So…there’s my answer!!
