North Hollywood High School Takes 3rd in National Science Bowl

North Hollywood High School finished third in its division today in the National Science Bowl competition in Washington, D.C.

The five-member team finished 5-3 on the day, with wins over teams from Ohio, Arkansas, Washington, D.C., New Mexico and South Dakota and close losses to a team from North Carolina and to two Northern California teams, one from Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, the other the defending national champion Mira Loma High School from Carmichael.

For the first time, North Hollywood won the Division Team Challenge round and won $500 for the school’s science department.

“We are very proud of the hard-working and brilliant students of the team,” said Walter Zeisl, spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and coordinator of the Los Angeles regional Science Bowl, which North Hollywood won in February for the 16th time in the past 18 years.

Team members include Dawit Kim, Joshua Kim, Christopher Moon, Sean Koyama its captain, Richard Wang.

Head coach is Altair Maine and assistant coach is Len Soloff.
