North Hollywood Man Convicted of Murder in Girlfriend's Death on the 210 Freeway

Ricardo Jimenez repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend before she fell onto the freeway and was struck by cars.

A North Hollywood man was convicted today of second- degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, who was stabbed and then run over by several vehicles after falling or jumping out of a moving car on the Foothill (210) Freeway.

Jurors deliberated less than a day before finding Ricardo Jimenez, 27, guilty of the charge stemming from the Aug. 29, 2013, death of Maria “Josie” Jimenez and finding that he personally used a knife during the crime.

Ricardo Jimenez -- who is not related to the victim -- was acquitted of first-degree murder.

The 22-year-old woman, who suffered multiple stab wounds, either jumped or fell out of a car on the eastbound 210 Freeway, west of the Hubbard Street exit, prosecutors said.

An autopsy determined that the woman suffered multiple blunt force traumatic injuries and sharp force injuries that included two sharp force injuries to her back and 14 incised wounds on her hands.

Authorities said the two had been involved in a verbal dispute at a tattoo parlor, where he was “berating” the woman.

The red Toyota Corolla, which belonged to the victim, was later found abandoned in the Foothill area and had her blood on the passenger side of the vehicle. The defendant was arrested two days later.

He is facing 16 years to life in state prison, with sentencing set May 1 in a San Fernando courtroom.
