VAN NUYS, CA — Police chasing a stolen U-Haul in the San Fernando Valley Monday morning ended up in a pile-up in the Van Nuys area.The incident is the latest in a string of U-Haul-truck thefts plaguing the region.The crash happened shortly before 4 a.m. near Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue. The car thief plowed into a "fixed object" at 3:52 a.m., and pursuing officers ended up in a crash with two other vehicles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.Following the crash, the suspect fled on foot, Officers set up a containment perimeter and searched for the suspect, Sgt. Robert Martinez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys Station said.
