Police Chasing Stolen U-Haul Hurt In Pile-Up

Officers were hurt in a crash with two other vehicles when the U-Haul they were chasing crashed at near Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue.

VAN NUYS, CA — Police chasing a stolen U-Haul in the San Fernando Valley Monday morning ended up in a pile-up in the Van Nuys area.

The incident is the latest in a string of U-Haul-truck thefts plaguing the region.

The crash happened shortly before 4 a.m. near Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue. The car thief plowed into a "fixed object" at 3:52 a.m., and pursuing officers ended up in a crash with two other vehicles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Following the crash, the suspect fled on foot,

Officers set up a containment perimeter and searched for the suspect, Sgt. Robert Martinez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys Station said.

The police officers injured in the crash were hospitalized with complaints of pain, according to Martinez.
