Robbery Suspect Stabs Police Dog In 7-Hour Noho Standoff

Police deployed tear gas to arrest a robbery suspect holed up in a hotel in North Hollywood Friday.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A robbery suspect was holed up Friday afternoon in a North Hollywood motel for nearly seven hours before being taken into custody and allegedly cut a police dog during the takedown.

Officers called for entry tools following the call in the 5900 block of Lankershim Boulevard, near Oxnard Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The call was made at 3:22 p.m., police said.

The standoff took place at the Pepper Tree Motel, according to ABC7.

The suspect was taken into custody about 10:10 p.m. after tear gas was deployed into the room, police said.

During his arrest, the suspect cut a police dog in its face with either a blade or a knife, according to LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar. The dog suffered a minor injury and was taken to an animal hospital to be treated, she said.

The suspect also was taken to a hospital for minor injuries but there were no additional injuries to civilians or officers reported.

Details about the robbery the suspect was wanted for were not immediately available.
