Smash-and-Grab Burglary Occurs at NoHo's New Harbor Freight Tools

A suspect is caught on security video fleeing with an $89 portable generator.

Around 4:30 a.m. this morning, a burglar broke a tempered glass pane of the sliding entry door at Harbor Freight Tools at 6020 Lankershim Blvd. and made off with a new portable gas generator, still in the "white cardboard box," according to an LAPD crime alert broadcast to North Hollywood Division patrol officers.

From the crime alert, the suspect was described as male, black, 5'7" tall, 200 lbs., 40 to 50 years of age, wearing a dark blue jacket, blue jeans and he was also wearing glasses. He was last seen running north on Lankershim Boulevard from the location, with the stolen merchandise in hand.

The North Hollywood Harbor Freight Tools store is the Camarillo, CA based company's newest location. Patch covered the on December 15.

According to an employee of the Harbor Freight Tools store, who met with police after the burglary and theft occurred, the crime was caught on video surveillance cameras around the store property, and no employees at the scene witnessed the crime occur.

"Looks like we need a security gate (protecting the front glass doors)," said the employee.

At the crime scene, a box containing a portable generator, which matched the description of the property that was stolen, sat in the debris of broken glass near the shattered sliding door. From a recent Harbor Freight Tools sales flyer, the portable generator is on sale for $89.00.

North Hollywood LAPD's Facebook site had recently posted an alert about that occurred at a business on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.
