Teen Pedestrian Killed, Brother Injured in Hit-and-Run

Police the driver may have been street racing. The accident happened on Whitsett Avenue in North Hollywood.

A 17-year-old pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run accident in North Hollywood that police said may have occurred during a car race was identified today.

Milton Marquez died in the accident reported in the 7000 block of Whitsett Avenue about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to police and coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

His brother also was struck seriously injured, police with the Valley Traffic Division said.

Marquez and his brother were struck by a northbound vehicle, possibly a Cadillac Escalade SUV, according to the LAPD. Police said they apparently were not in a crosswalk at the time.

Witnesses told police the suspect vehicle, which appeared to have been racing another vehicle, continued northbound before turning right onto Sherman Way, then right onto the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway.
