Today in History: 'Bionic Woman' Lindsay Wagner Helped Rescue Suicide Jumper From Hotel Roof
It's the Bionic Woman to the rescue! And it's not TV, it's real!

Although it seemed like a scene from an episode of her television show The Bionic Woman, actress Lindsay Wagner saved a real life on Nov. 14, 1978, when she agreed to talk to a suicide jumper who was perched on the ledge of the 20-story Universal Sheraton Hotel near Universal Studios at 333 Universal Hollywood Drive.
As was reported in the Milwaukee Journal, L.A. Daily News, and the Lewiston Evening Journal, Pat Lopez, a 27-year-old woman from Reseda, climbed out onto the ledge of the hotel, and as police and fire officials responded, she demanded to talk to the "Bionic Woman."
Wagner agreed to help and was flown by helicopter from the Malibu sheriff's station near where she lived. While Lopez was distracted, the hotel's chief engineer grabbed her and pulled her from the ledge, risking his own life in the process.

Wagner's show had recently been cancelled when the event on the Sheraton roof took place. It aired on ABC for two seasons, then NBC for a third and final season in 1978. Wagner went on to have a prolific career in television and film, but is still best remembered for The Bionic Woman.
