UPDATED: Train Hits Pedestrian in North Hollywood

The pedestrian did not survive. Police say it may be a suicide.

A woman was fatally struck by a Metrolink passenger train this morning when she ran onto the tracks in North Hollywood, police said.

Emergency crews were sent around 7:45 a.m. to the 7200 block of Lankershim Boulevard, south of Sherman Way near Tujunga Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is unknown at this moment the reason behind the victim’s actions,” according to a police statement.

A department spokeswoman earlier said the woman appeared to have committed suicide.

Anyone with information about her identity was urged to contact detectives with the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8116 or (818) 644-8021.

Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson said 43 passengers were aboard Train 103 on the Ventura County line at the time. Buses were dispatched to move the passengers to their destinations.
