Vehicle Strikes Lamppost, Then Sign, Ejecting and Killing Driver

The 33-year-old was speeding on Sherman Way and crashed near Varna Avenue.

A 33-year-old-man was killed when he was ejected from a speeding vehicle that struck a lamppost, then a sign in North Hollywood, police said today.

The crash was reported at 13425 Sherman Way at Varna Avenue at 7:31 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Russell Carr of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

“The vehicle was westbound on Sherman Way at a high rate of speed when it went off the road and collided with a lamp post, then a business sign,” Carr said. “The driver, a 33-year-old man, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.”

There was a suspect involved and the investigation continues, Carr said. He could not say whether that suspect was racing with the victim.
