Woman Identified in North Hollywood Hit and Run

Police are still looking for the truck driver who struck and killed a 57-year-old woman Friday on Saticoy Street.

Authorities today released the identity of a 57- year-old Sun Valley woman struck and killed by a pickup that left the scene in North Hollywood.

Her name was Melva Evangelin Chapman, coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral told the Los Angeles Daily News.

She was struck about 8:30 p.m. Friday on Saticoy Street near Irvine Avenue, Los Angeles police Officer Jane Kim said.

The woman was crossing southbound Saticoy Street when she was hit and died at the scene, police said.

Capt. John McMahon of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division told reporters she was wearing dark clothing and was in an unmarked pedestrian crosswalk when she was struck.

The pickup truck was described as a white, late model Toyota Tacoma and police were seeking the public’s help in locating the vehicle and its driver.

Valley Traffic Division detectives asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (818) 644-8116. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
