Woman Killed When Driver Swerves to Avoid Ambulance In North Hollywood

A woman was killed and a man was injured when they crashed after swerving to avoid an ambulance in North Hollywood Sunday.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A woman died and a man was injured when a vehicle swerved to avoid an ambulance and crashed into a pole in North Hollywood, authorities said Monday.

The crash was at about 4:10 p.m. Sunday at 6831 Vineland Ave., at the intersection with Vanowen Street, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The ambulance was moving westbound through Vanowen Street and the vehicle was northbound on Vineland Avenue, said Officer D. Orris of the Los Angeles Police Department's Racer Division, which investigates crashes with city vehicles involved.

Two people were temporarily trapped inside the vehicle, Humphrey said.

The man driving the vehicle was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but the woman passenger died at the hospital, Orris said. Her name was withheld pending notification of family.
