'Wunderkind' Manager Sentenced for Violating Krekorian Talent Scam Act

Studio City talent manager Nick Roses is facing possible jail time.

Studio City talent manager Nick Roses entered a no-contest plea this week on two counts of violating the Krekorian Talent Scam Prevention Act of 2009, according to Deadline.com.

The act, authored by Los Angeles City Council District 2 Representative Paul Krekorian when he was in the State Assembly, states in part that talent managers are not allowed to charge advance fees and only first .

Roses, who Deadline.com described as a "one-time 21-year-old wunderkind talent manager," plead no-contest to one count of operating an advance-fee talent representation service and one count of failing to file the proper $50,000 bond with the State Labor Commission. Judge Yolanda Orozco sentenced Roses to serve 90 days in jail or perform 45 days of community labor, and to 36 months probation.

Roses is one of four talent managers who have been charged so far with violating the act, and he was originally charged with nine counts. Roses lured several families with child actors from Ohio to Los Angeles by charging them $3,000 for acting workshops with the promise to eventually sign the kids, which is in direct violation of the Krekorian Act.

Manager Facing Jail, Roses was born in 1989 and started working for talent agencies at the age of 12. By the age of 21, he was well known around the entertainment industry and working for the established management company Luber Roklin Entertainment, although, according to Deadline.com, he was operating the scams through his own company.
