3 Hospitalized In Pit Bull Attack

Three people were hospitalized after being mauled by a pitbull that had pinned one person down in Los Angeles, according to police.

VAN NUYS, CA — Three people are in stable condition today after being mauled by their family pet in Vany Nuys.

A child was reportedly among the three people attacked by a pit bull Monday night at a home in the 13000 block of Runnymede Street.

"We responded around 9:59 p.m. It looks like there was a dog running around the neighborhood. It had pinned down a person," said LAPD Officer Jeffrey Lee. "A family reported their own dog had bit a couple family members."

Responding paramedics had to call for backup because of the number of people suffering from serious dog bites.

Three ambulances transported three people to a local hospital in stable condition, confirmed Lee and Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Los Angeles Animal Services was called in to handle the dog, said Lee. It was not immediately clear what the dog's fate would be.

The matter will be handled as a civil matter rather than a criminal matter, said Lee.

The attack is one of several pit bull attacks in Los Angeles County in less than two months.

In February, a dog breeder was mauled to death by his pit bulls, leading authorities to euthanize all 13 of the animals.
