37-Year-Old Man Killed By Metrolink Train In Northridge Identified

Police are investigating to find out what led to the fatal collision.

NORTHRIDGE, CA — A 37-year-old man struck and killed by a Metrolink train in Northridge Wednesday has been identified.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Michael Gershon, a homeless man, died at the scene.

The crash occurred in the 8900 block of Corbin Avenue at 6:05 p.m. — the same time firefighters were called to respond to a homeless encampment fire a few blocks away from the train fatality.

"Sadly, one man, approximately 50 years old, was fatally struck by a train," said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange. "Paramedics arrived to assess the man, only to find he was beyond medical help."

The scene was handed over to Los Angeles Police Department for investigation, he added.

Police have not said what led to the collision. The circumstances remain under investigation.

At the same time paramedics were called to the scene, firefighters were being called to nearby West Nordhoff Street where a fire had broken out at a large homeless encampment.
