Accidental Shooting Kills Northridge Man, Female In Custody: LAPD
Martin Kovachev was accidentally shot and killed early Saturday when a gun was being passed around by friends and discharged, police said.
NORTHRIDGE, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting death of a 21-year-old Northridge man early Saturday morning that has a 22-year-old woman in custody.
Martin Kovachev was killed when he was struck by a bullet that was accidentally fired from a gun around 2 a.m. in the 17500 block of Strathern St. in Lake Balboa, police said. The victim was identified by the Los Angeles Coroner's Office, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
A LAPD department spokeswoman said Monday that the accidental shooting took place in the back yard of the home where a group of friends were passing a handgun around when the gun went off and Kovachev was struck. He was transported to an area hospital but was declared dead a short time later, the spokeswoman said.

Police said that the shooting was not gang-related. Police have not identified the woman who was arrested in the incident.
