SIMI VALLEY, CA — A brush fire burning near a residential neighborhood in Simi Valley forced the evacuations of hundreds of properties Monday.
The Sandy Fire, burning off Sandy Avenue in Simi Valley, broke out at around 10:50 a.m. and was estimated to be about 184 acres shortly after, according to Calfire.
"Firefighters are being supported by three air tankers and six helicopters conducting aggressive aerial suppression operations in coordination with ground crews," Calfire said.

By 12:30 p.m., evacuation orders were in place in four areas in Simi Valley, while evacuation warnings were in place in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.
