Chatsworth Brush Fire Quickly Doused

A small brush fire broke out in Chatsworth overnight, but an aggressive firefight response stopped it from doing much damage.

CHATSWORTH, CA — Los Angeles firefighters wuickly tackled a small brush fire in Chatsworth Thursday before it could do significant damage.

The blaze scorched a fourth of an acre of brush Thursday at about midnight on the westbound Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway at DeSoto Avenue, Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

About 60 firefighters made quick work of the blaze with the help of air support, authorities said.

"Firefighters quickly stopped all forward progress," Bastman said. No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.

The fire broke out as Southern California faces red flag warnings amid a record-setting heat wave.
