Heart-Stopping Road Rage Chain Reaction Crash: Dashboard Camera

Police are looking for a motorcyclist who triggered a road rage chain reaction crash on the 14 Freeway in Santa Clarita Wednesday.

SANTA CLARITA, CA — Several people are lucky to be alive today following a road rage incident that triggered a large chain reaction crash on the 14 Freeway in Santa Clarita Wednesday.

The crash, which was captured on video, is being investigated as a hit-and-run that left a driver who wasn’t involved in the road rage exchange trapped in a flipped SUV as it spun and skidded across the busy freeway. The SUV driver was rushed to Henry Mayo Hospital in moderate condition, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in the carpool lane on the southbound side of the freeway near the Newhall Avenue exit.

Tim Morrison and Chris Traber shot the video when they saw the driver of a silver Nissan cut off a motorcyclist, leading to a high-speed altercation, KTLA reported. Morrison told KTLA the crash was, “Pretty intense, so I’m just glad that the guy’s OK. The officer told me yesterday that he seems to be OK.”

The video shows the motorcyclist catching up with the Nissan and kicking its rear door. The Nissan driver appears to swerve into the biker, who managed to avoid losing control while the Nissan plowed into the center divider, skidded across four lanes of traffic and into the SUV, which flipped and landed across two lanes of traffic.
