Peak Fire Burns 105 Acres
Firefighters stopped a wind-driven wildfire that broke out south of the 118 Freeway near Rocky Point.

NORTHRIDGE, CA —A wildfire broke out along the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway near the Los Angeles/Ventura county line Monday morning and quickly ballooned to 105 acres and shutting down the freeway.
The fast-moving brush fire forced the immediate evacuation of Box Canyon and Lake Manor residents, has been brought under control by firefighters. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department ordered residents to evacuate the Box Canyon and Lake Manor areas at about 11:30 a.m. The 118 Freeway was closed in both directions by the California Highway Patrol. The westbound side eventually opened at 12:30 p.m.
Thirteen LA County engine companies rushed to the scene to assist the Ventura County Fire Department in battling the blaze, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. crews made quick progress, stopping the forward movement of the fire shortly before 1 p.m., and crews were working to mop up and monitor any hot spots.

No injuries were reported. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
