West Hills Driver, 75, Arrested After Allegedly Hitting CHP Officer, Fleeing Scene

The CHP officer, who was directing traffic in Topanga Canyon area, was flown to UCLA Med Center for injuries.

TOPANGA, CA -- A 75-year-old man from West Hills was in custody this morning after he allegedly hit a California Highway Patrol officer while she was directing traffic around an accident scene, then fled, the CHP reported.

Prashant Amin was driving a 2013 Cadillac XTS on Topanga Canyon just north of Pacific Coast Highway about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday when a 39-year-old CHP officer was investigating a non-injury traffic crash, according to a CHP
accident report.

Officer L. Flores was then struck by the Cadillac, which was heading north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to the CHP. Following the crash, the driver later identified as Amin allegedly fled the scene but was later spotted a few miles from the crash scene and arrested by CHP officers.

Amin was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, according to the CHP.

Flores, meanwhile, was helped by one of the people who was involved in the accident she was investigating. She was then airlifted to UCLA Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
