110 MPH Chase Across LA County Ends In Rollover Crash

A suspected car thief led police on a dangerous chase before slamming into a support column for the freeway overpass.

LOS ANGELES, CA — While leading police on a 110 mph-chase across Los Angeles County, a suspected car thief swerved to avoid something in the road, causing the vehicle to flip and crash into a support column for the freeway overpass, killing him.

The driver had been leading the police on a dangerous chase across major Los Angeles County freeways.

The suspect was on a southbound transition road from the 5 Freeway to the 138 Freeway when the crash occurred. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The chase began at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, near the eastbound 210 Freeway and Polk Street. Los Angeles police pursued the suspect as the driver exited the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in the Santa Clarita area. By 2:40 p.m., the suspect was heading north on the Golden State (5) Freeway near Pyramid Lake, at speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It's a steep and winding stretch of freeway, and police warned commuters to avoid the area.

According to KTLA, the driver had undertaken some risky and at one point faked an exit before quickly changing course back onto the freeway before the pursuing CHP officer could follow.
