GRANADA HILLS, CA — Police are investigating a suspicious item discovered outside a Granada Hills mosque Sunday night. The suspicious item triggered an evacuation and caused a scare for the community.

A bomb squad was sent to the Islamic Center of Northridge at 11439 Encino Ave. about 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. They found an item that didn't turn out to be an explosive device, but it did prompt an ongoing investigation Monday into the suspicious but non-explosive item.

Authorities evacuated the area as a precaution, and the bomb squad determined that the item was a pressure cooker, which had not been converted into a bomb, said LAPD Sgt. Kevin Cuartas of the Devonshire Division.
