Murder-Suicide Suspected In Double Fatality In Novato-Area Home [UPDATE]

Marin officials said the deceased individuals were a man and a woman in their 70s, who both died of gunshot wounds.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – UPDATE: WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 2:10 p.m.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting deaths of two elderly residents in unincorporated Novato as a possible murder-suicide, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The sheriff's office received a call around 8:30 a.m. from people who came to visit the residents of 611 Bugeia Lane off of Atherton Avenue, Lt. Doug Pittman said.

The visitors found both residents dead and called 911. Sheriff's deputies confirmed the man and woman in their mid-70s died of gunshot wounds, Pittman said.

Deputies secured the house and property and sought a search warrant to go back in the house. They will be at the scene throughout the day, Pittman said.

The names of the man and woman will be released by the Marin County coroner's office, Pittman said.

Marin County sheriff's deputies are investigating an apparent double homicide in the unincorporated Novato area this morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., deputies reported they had personnel at the scene of a residence in the 600 block of Bugeia Lane, where two people had been found dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Further details were not immediately available.
