County Planning Commission to Discuss Housing Element

If you’re fascinated or concerned about how Marin County is planning for population growth in years to come, the Marin County Planning Commission’s March 11 meeting will provide some insight.

The County of Marin is moving forward with its housing element, a document that lays out a comprehensive plan for housing that is affordable to the full range of Marin’s diverse community and local workforce. As per state law, towns, cities and counties must deliver a plan to meet existing and planned housing needs. Housing elements are reviewed for compliance by the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development.

At 12:30 p.m. March 11, the Planning Commission will discuss issues related to the Draft Housing Element that were continued from the Feb. 11 meeting. Although no decision will be made by the Planning Commission on March 11, the public is invited to comment at the beginning of the meeting. Future hearing dates will be announced by email.

Staff is compiling and reviewing public feedback on the Housing Element’s Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR). Once the response to comments and Final SEIR are completed, the Planning Commission is scheduled to review the material in late spring and make a recommendation to the Marin County Board of Supervisors. Review by the Board is expected to take place this summer.
