JROTC Ball 2013 was a hugh success. The ball committee planned and led another successful annual event. The $4,000 project is held to give back to the hard working cadets. The ball is host the to the cadet promotion and awards program. The cadets enjoyed a night of awards, promotions, dinner and dancing at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael.
JROTC has finished creating the new "learning center." The facility has two classrooms, computer lab, personal office spaces, and cadet lounge. The learning center is located next to the AVID teaching center and both programs emphasis "how to learn" while learning their curriculum. Cadets call the facility home since they can use the facility before, during, and after school. The ping pong ladder is a big hit.
JROTC helps English Learners. The JROTC has created a specially designed JROTC course to improve reading, writing, and speaking skills while learning the JROTC and AVID curriculum. EL students can compete for selective positions.

Cadets participated in regional JROTC Fun Olympics. Fun Olympics was an event where cadets gathered in Sacramento with other units around the area and competed in fun and challenging games and activities. They competed in many events to include line wrestling, relay races, dodge ball, and crab soccer. All cadets learned teamwork, sportsmanship, and improved their esprite de corps.
Cadets honor the passing of a legend and veteran. The cadets honored the passing of Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Howard Pierson by performing the honor guard during the funeral and assisting at the memorial service. Col Pierson was a three war veteran and pilot with over 20 years of service in the Air Force. Col Pierson was also a big supporter of the cadet program by mentoring cadets for their future careers. The cadets learned first hand on what it means to be an American hero, officer and gentleman. The cadets salute "Col P" and all local veterans.
Enrollment is now open. Marin county high school students can enroll in the JROTC program by contacting Mr. Hiroshi "Yoshi" Yamaguchi at 415-314-5429 or email HYamaguchi@NUSD.org.
